A cleaner future for food transport
Using our considerable experience of the market, FridgeXpress have worked hard to keep pace with a fast-changing industry. One of the most challenging issues facing all companies in the transportation sector, is the imminent and long-awaited move away from fossil fuels.
Last year, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced that he was bringing forward plans to extend the Congestion Charge Zone in 2021, and introduce a new Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) in central London from spring 2019.
The zone will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within the same area as the current Congestion Charging Zone (CCZ), and comes into force on 8 April 2019. From this date, only vehicles which meet Euro 6 emissions standards will avoid the additional £12.50 daily charge.
The new charge will be applied on top of the existing £11.50 weekday Congestion Charge, and replace the £10 Toxicity or T-Charge that currently applies to older (Euro 4) diesel vehicles.
At FridgeXpress we are observing a sharp increase in costs to operate diesel vehicles in London. In the short term we have ensured that all of our new Spot Hire vans are compliant with the new legislation. So when you hire from us you can operate in the central London Low Emission Zone without paying the £10 a day T Charge –or the forthcoming ULEZ charges.
For the longer term, we are working with our partners in developing an all-electric fridge van for urban use, which will be automatically exempt from BOTH the Congestion and ULEZ charges.
We are also working with selected operators in the London area who will trial and share experience on the various prototypes. Meaning that FridgeXpress are expert leaders in providing THE a definitive solution in electric powered, refrigerated vehicles with the range and charge up time suitable for the end-user.For operators delivering in the central London area, the Renault Kangoo ZE Maxi fridge van could prove to be cheaper to operate than its diesel counterparts.
